Charter destination Korcula

Very charming Croatia charter destination is island Korcula and its beautiful medieval fortified town Korcula.  It earned its nickname “little Dubrovnik”  for the thick 14th-century stone defence walls and towers. Immerse yourself in Korčula’s narrow walkways and discover adorned palaces and elegant houses. Also visit numerous churches and palaces of aristocrats built in the 14th, 15th and 16th centuries. The fact that Marco Polo was born on the island is not yet completely verified but the frequency of the last name Polo and Depolo supports the thesis. A museum in his honour was opened recently in the house that is believed to be Polo’s house of birth.

While visiting this Croatia charter destination you should try to catch a performance of the Moreska Sword Dance. Moreška dates back to the 16th century. It used to be played all over Mediterranean while nowadays it’s only performed in Korcula. The tale begins when Moro (the Black King) captures a Moslem maiden, Bula who he is in loved with. However, Bula is in love with Osman (The White King) who shortly after comes with his troops to free her. The dance is a sword-dancing fight which ends with the defeat of the black army.

If you are a bit of an adrenaline junkie, don’t miss exciting outdoor adventure activities the island offers  including sea kayaking, mountain biking, paragliding scuba diving and more. Take a day out with Donkey Safari and  explore the islands vineyards and countryside.
